Our next shopping event for seniors will be held on Wednesday, November 2, 2022 beginning at 9 a.m. at Giant Tiger, 2210 Lasalle Blvd., Sudbury, ON.

Applications for this year’s program open on October 3, 2022 at 9:00 am. Note that we will not accept any registrations prior to this date.

How to apply

You must be a resident of the City of Greater Sudbury, over the age of 55 and in need of winter clothing. Participants will be received on a first come first served basis, with new individuals to the program accommodated first.

You must be referred by a referral agency (i.e. churches, Home and Community Care, housing, primary care, Support Workers). Your referral agency will fill out the application form with you and email it to the City of Greater Sudbury.

If you have any questions about how to apply, please call 705-674-4455, extension 2449. Note that we will not return any calls received before October 3.

Once we receive your application, you will be contacted by a member of the Keeping Seniors Warm Committee. We’ll provide you with your shopping time, any COVID-19 safety requirements in affect, and other details including what required identification to bring. Please note that if you are not registered and your participation has not been confirmed directly with you, you will not be able to shop.

If you cannot attend in person due to mobility issues or concerns about the spread of COVID-19, a family member or friend can shop on your behalf during your time slot. We will confirm the details with you.

Shopping details

You will be required to make your own arrangements for travel to and from Giant Tiger on Lasalle Blvd. We will provide you with bus tickets but if you need them, make sure you apply early enough so we can mail them to you or otherwise get you your tickets.

When you arrive at Giant Tiger, we’ll ask you to sign in and provide proof of identification. You must sign a waiver form to participate. A volunteer will help you shop, and will help you keep a running total of the items you have selected, up to a limit of $175. Please note that you must stay under the $175 limit.

You must select warm winter clothing, shoes, slippers, winter coats, boots, mitts or hats. You cannot purchase other items, including food or household items.
